Middle Ramu Sculpture

Middle Ramu Cult hook Figure | Middle Ramu sculpture.

Object Type: Cult hook

Locality: Middle Ramu Papua New Guinea

Artist: Unknown

Circa: 1950

Height: 91 cm

Description: I very seldom buy from other dealers but when I saw this piece I knew it was to good to pass by.  There are fake examples of this object all over the place but this one is the real deal.  The perfection of the hooks and presence are immediately evident. For those people who know their New Guinea art, they will immediately recognize the similarity with Garra masks and yipwon figures. Oral history from this area tells of a clan that lost a battle and wandered out of the Sepik for many months until they settled on the banks of the Guam river.  They bought their gods and art with them. Just like Yipwon the great ones have their hooks carved to a point of perfection. The hooks focus the energy to the serene yet menacing face.

Price: $8000 AUD

This section is a part of optimizing this web site page for a keyword.  In the world of the internet, a website will be visited by google bots. Amongst other things, the length of the article or page should be over 300 words. This makes it necessary to add additional words so that a page ranks better.  What you are reading right now is a part of that optimization process.

The process can be frustrating and I hope you can excuse me for placing this extra text. Three hundred words may not sound a lot but it is often more than needed for a punchy description.

It is not only keyword that I use this technique for. I have used it for other artifacts and artworks from Papua New Guinea and oceanic art.

Shields as Art

Like many other artifacts, this object is not just an artifact it is art. Collectors from around the world collect art from different regions. This art is Tribal art. In reality, Tribal art or ethnographic art is art from around the world.
